A Chipotle Mexican Grille with a drive-thru is proposed in West Hartford’s Prospect Plaza, near the corner of Prospect and Kane streets.
The owner of the plaza at 445 Prospect St., Prospect Plaza Improvements LLC, has applied for a special use permit for a proposed building in the southeast corner of an existing parking area.
The owner is proposing a one-story, 5,000-square-foot building to house a 2,400-square-foot Chipotle, and two smaller retail spaces, according to the application.
Unlike a typical drive-thru, which allows patrons to order a meal and pay for it, the “Chipotlane” is only available for orders placed online and paid for virtually. No money will be exchanged at the drive-thru pick-up window.
That means queuing of customers’ vehicles will be minimal, the application states.
Prospect Plaza’s application was on the agenda for the Planning and Zoning Commission’s meeting Monday night, but the commission will hold a public hearing before voting on the application.
A public hearing is expected in September.
Chipotle has two locations in West Hartford, one at 1457 New Britain Ave., in Corbins Corner and another at 966 Farmington Ave., in West Hartford Center, but neither has a drive-thru.
Chipotle has 10 existing locations in Connecticut and more than 3,000 restaurants in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and France.
