Wesleyan’s Bruno in line to run Neb. college

Longtime Wesleyan University educator Joseph Bruno is one of four finalists to be the next president of private Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., KHAS-TV reports.

The liberal-arts school’s search committee of three faculty members, one student, one administrator, and six trustees is looking for a successor to outgoing President Phil Dudley.

Middletown’s Wesleyan, too, is a private, liberal-arts school.

“It’s a really exciting time for the college and it’s an important decision. I think we’ve got great candidates,” said Hastings College Vice President of Business Affairs Kay Langseth.

The candidates will visit the Hastings campus one at a time, beginning next week, the station reports on its website. Bruno and his wife are due to visit Feb. 17 and 18.

A career educator at Wesleyan, Bruno was the vice president for academic affairs and provost from 2006 to 2010 and has been dean of natural sciences and mathematics at the school.

He is due to return to Wesleyan after sabbatical as a chemistry professor.

Other candidates for the Hastings job include: Stuart Dorsey, who served as president of the University of Redlands in California for five years; Richard Dunsworth, enrollment vice president at Millikin University in Illinois; and Dennis Trotter, vice president for college advancement at Pitzer College in California.
