Wells Fargo has made a $40,000 gift to the American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island region to support the Ready365 program, which helps to ensure the every-day emergency response capability of the Red Cross.
The Ready365 program provides support for various Red Cross services including ensuring there is an adequate and safe blood supply to meet hospitals’ needs, and help for individuals displaced by fires, floods, hurricanes or other disasters.
About 96 percent of Red Cross’ staff are volunteers.
RE/MAX of New England donates more than $190K through 2013 Community Partnerships
In 2013, RE/MAX of New England donated $192,000 to community partners throughout New England including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, the Boston Celtics, and many other local groups.
Throughout 2013, RE/MAX of New England participated in seven Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure events, including in Hartford and Westport, raising more than $38,000 for the fight against breast cancer. RE/MAX agents across New England donated nearly $155,000 in 2013 through the Miracle Home program in which RE/MAX associates donate a portion of their commission with each closed transaction.
Sestero Fund to underwrite acupuncture clinic at Rushford
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded a $39,200 grant to Rushford at Glastonbury for acupuncture services for low-income residents and clients receiving substance abuse and mental health treatment services.
The grant is from the Norma and Natale Sestero Fund at the Hartford Foundation.
Rushford, a Hartford Healthcare partner, provides inpatient and outpatient substance abuse and mental health services to thousands of children, adolescents, adults and families each year.
Hartford Foundation awards grant to fight domestic abuse
A three-year, $130,000 grant to support efforts to counteract bullying and dating violence in area schools was recently awarded to The Network Against Domestic Abuse of North Central CT by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.
The Network assists families and individuals who have experienced domestic and interpersonal violence, educates to promote healthy relationships and advocates for safer communities. It also provides court advocacy services in the Enfield and Rockville criminal court and community one-on-one counseling and support groups. The Network operates a 24/7 hotline and a 15-bed safe home for women and children.
Union Savings Bank Foundation awards $203K to nonprofits
The Union Savings Bank Foundation recently distributed $203,308 to 45 nonprofit agencies in western Connecticut. The USB Foundation’s 2013-2014 grants will support services and programs that include individual and family health, economic and personal stability, youth development and education, meals to the needy, shelter and housing assistance, art and nature education, and a number of services to help those with mental and physical disabilities.
The USB Foundation accepts grant applications between June 1 and Aug. 31 of each year, for grants that are awarded at an annual reception in November.
Aetna honored with March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter ‘Humanitarian Award’
Aetna was recently honored with the 2013 “Humanitarian Award” by the March of Dimes Connecticut Chapter. Aetna was recognized for its active local partnership and efforts to support babies and families.
In three years, the Aetna community leadership team has grown its March for Babies team and raised over $51,000.
