Wells Fargo widens Michelle Lee’s turf

Michelle Lee, Wells Fargo Bank’s top banker in Connecticut and four other states, has been promoted to lead its community banking operations in the east region.

Lee is a 31-year Wells Fargo veteran who started as a teller and whose current region also includes Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. She succeeds Laura Schulte, who is retiring after 32 years at the bank.

Based in Charlotte, N.C., Lee will lead a team of more than 32,000 members based in approximately 2,700 branches across the eastern region, that includes 14 states and Washington, D.C., stretching from Connecticut to Florida, and west to Tennessee. She will report to Carrie Tolstedt, head of Wells Fargo’s Community Bank.

“I could not be more thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Eastern Region team,” Lee said in a statement Wednesday. “I’m looking forward to learning about the markets and working with our teams to serve our customers and the communities throughout the east coast.

Schulte has led the eastern region since 2009. After the Wells Fargo/Wachovia merger in 2008, she moved to Charlotte to lead the region.
