Wells Fargo, Urban League team on programs

The National Urban League and Wells Fargo & Co., operator of Wachovia Banks in Connecticut, announced a three-year, multi-million dollar partnership to sustain housing and programs in the African-American community.

The first year of the relationship will include grants to some of  the Urban League’s 100 local affiliates — Hartford is home to one — to train staff to provide foreclosure counseling. Financial education and credit management courses also will be among the programs offered through the Urban League to communities.

The century-old Urban League assists more than 400,000 people a year to secure homeownership maintain good credit and obtain monetary savings.

Fargo/Wachovia to address challenges within the African American community, starting with a focus on sustainable housing and community stabilization.

Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf will officially launch the partnership tonight as chair of the Urban League’s benefit dinner in New York.
