San Francisco-based Wells Fargo has closed a branch in Monroe, and plans to close three more this summer.
Wells Fargo closed the branch at 470 Monroe Turnpike on June 7, and employees were transferred to other branches.
This summer, the bank plans to close three other branches in Connecticut: at 108 Mill Plain Road in Danbury and 950 Post Road in Darien, both on July 26 at 12 p.m.; and at 761 Highland Ave., in Waterbury, on Aug. 16 at 12 p.m.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, and customers can continue to bank with us at our other nearby locations,” said Jacqueline Hlavenka-Sansone, a spokeswoman for Wells Fargo.
Monroe Plaza customers can visit the bank’s Trumbull location, about 6 miles away, Hlavenka-Sansone said. Danbury customers can visit the Danbury North Street Shopping Center branch on Padanaram Road, about 3.5 miles away. Darien customers can visit the Norwalk Post Road branch, about a mile and a half away. Waterbury Town Plot customers can visit the Valley Mall branch at 800 Wolcott St. in Waterbury, about 3 miles away.
Wells Fargo, one of the largest banks in the United States, continues to maintain a strong presence in the Nutmeg State, with more than 50 branches, the company said.
“Branches continue to play an important role in the way we serve our customers, and we continuously evaluate our branch network in light of changing customer needs, the increase in the use of digital banking, market factors and economic trends,” Hlavenka-Sansone said.
