Wells Fargo, China wind-energy firm in pact

San Francisco banking giant Wells Fargo & Co., with branches in Connecticut, is in partnership to help one of China’s biggest wind-energy firms establish a beachhead in the United States.

Wells Fargo and Shanghai-based Guodian United Power Technology Co. Ltd. say they will jointly explore opportunities in the U.S. wind industry.

To date, Wells Fargo says its National Cleantech Group has invested nearly $1.5 billion in wind power projects. Since 2006, the bank says it has deployed more than $2.7 billion in project capital, including approximately $2 billion of tax equity, into more than 250 renewable energy projects in the U.S.

Combined, those projects account for more than 4,200 megawatts of new clean energy capacity across 25 states and supply enough energy annually to power about 1 million American homes.
