Indiana insurer WellPoint Inc., which does business in Connecticut, said it plans to change its name back to Anthem by the end of the year.
WellPoint is the parent company of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, which sells plans in Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine and eight other states.
Last month, Connecticut insurance regulators disapproved Anthem’s proposed 2015 rate hikes, calling them excessive. The insurer is also in tough contract negotiations with Hartford Healthcare, and warned earlier this month that it may split with the provider come Oct. 1
WellPoint was formed in 2004 through the merger of Anthem and WellPoint Health Networks. The parent company does not sell any policies under the WellPoint name.
