WellPoint President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairwoman Angela Braly resigned her position, the company announced late Tuesday.
Braly’s resignation comes amid growing investor frustration and disappointing financial results with the nation’s second largest health insurer, according to a report from The Associated Press.
Indianapolis-based WellPoint is the parent of Wallingford-based Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut. Braly took over as president and CEO in 2007 and added the chairwoman position in 2010.
In its announcement, WellPoint said the search for a replacement has begun. John Cannon, the company’s executive vice president and general counsel, will serve in Braly’s position in the interim. Cannon said he does not wish to be a candidate for permanent CEO.
