Webster taps John Guy Jr. for SBA lending

Webster Bank has hired John L. Guy Jr., a former Ohio banker with a deep background in Small Business Administration lending and other business loans, to widen its foothold in that market.

A former officer with Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati and Wachovia Bank in North Carolina, Guy joins Webster as a senior vice president and director of business and professional banking within Webster’s retail banking division.

He reports to Anne Slattery, Webster’s executive vice president for retail banking.

At Fifth Third, Guy was in charge from 2006 until his departure to join Webster of the Cincinnati lender’s Small Business Administration and alternative lending strategies to companies with revenues up to $10 million.

Guy also worked for Wachovia in Charlotte, N.C. from 1999-2006 as executive director for wholesale products and small and business banking. In addition, he was chief executive and operating officer for Wachovia’s Small Business Capital unit.
