Webster Bank’s Waterbury parent has hired former NewAlliance Bancshares finance chief Glenn I. MacInnes as its chief financial officer.
MacInnes, 50, reports to Jerry Plush, who previously held the post prior to his promotion in January to vice chairman and chief operating officer.
Plush is Webster’s No. 2, behind CEO James C. Smith, and widely viewed as Smith’s eventual successor.
MacInnes most recently was CFO of NewAlliance from November 2009 through its $1.5 billion merger in April with First Niagara Financial Group, of Buffalo, N.Y.
Webster Financial is a super-regional lender with $18 billion in assets. NewAlliance was Connecticut’s third-largest bank $9 billion in assets. First Niagara post-merger has $29 billion in assets.
MacInnes spent 11 years at Citigroup as a finance executive. Before that, MacInnes was regional CFO for First Union Bank from 1986 to 1998. He began his banking career as regional controller at United Jersey Bank in 1983.
MacInnes earned a BA in business administration from Susquehanna University and his MBA from Monmouth University. Â MacInnes and his wife reside in New Haven.
