Webster hires ex-Fannie Mae exec

Former Fannie Mae executive Theresa M. Messina is joining Webster Bank’s parent as chief accounting officer.

Messina will oversee all accounting and treasury operations for Waterbury-based Webster Financial Corp. She reports to Jerry Plush, Webster’s senior executive vice president and chief financial officer/chief risk officer.

Announcement of her hiring comes one day after Webster disclosed plans to fill 150 positions as it gears up to double its lending to $850 million this year.

“Terri brings a wealth of experience in financial services,” Plush said.

Messina was with Fannie Mae, the quasi-public underwriter of home mortgages, from 2006. There, she directed strategic operations involving more than 18 million single-family mortgages totaling more than $3 trillion.

Messina is a graduate of Lehigh University and has an MBA in corporate finance from St. Joseph’s University.  She is a certified public accountant and is licensed in New York and Pennsylvania.
