Webster Financial Corp. has promoted Gerald P. Plush to president of the Waterbury banking company, putting him one step closer to eventually taking over the bank’s top spot.
The Waterbury-based banking company said Thursday that Plush will take over his new position immediately. He has also been elected to the bank’s board of directors.
The promotion isn’t all that surprising.
Plush was named chief operating officer of Webster Financial earlier this year, and is expected to be the eventual successor of current CEO and Chairman James C. Smith when he retires.
Plush joined Webster in July 2006 as chief financial officer and subsequently added the title of chief risk officer. In January he was named vice chairman and chief operating officer.
