Webster Bank is closing five Connecticut branches, including one in New Britain, effective April 1.
Webster’s New Britain location at 435 S. Main St. will be among branches in Bridgewater, Morris, New Canaan and Woodbridge that will close, officials say. All are within five miles of existing Webster branches.
About 25 employees are affected by the closings, but all are expected to be offered transfers to remaining branches, a bank spokesman said Wednesday.
In addition, Webster is slated to open three new branches at an unspecified date in 2011 – in Greenwich; Scarsdale, N.Y.; and Somerset, Mass.
Connecticut is home to 136 of Webster’s 181 branches in New England.
