Stamford-based Webster Bank has awarded $300,000 in grants to three programs that provide financial empowerment to students in low- to moderate-income areas.
The recipients are the Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury Inc. and the YWCA Hartford Region, both based in Connecticut, along with Taunton Area School to Career in Massachusetts.
The grants are through Webster Bank’s Finance Lab initiative, launched in June 2022, meant  to assist nonprofits that help young people gain skills needed for economic empowerment and financial success in low- to moderate-income areas.
The initiative has committed $600,000 to six nonprofit organizations so far.
The Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury is working with Webster Bank to support its clients with financial education on topics including financing a small business, how to manage a bank account and how to increase a credit score.
The YWCA Hartford Region will use the funds to help address economic inequities experienced by women and girls in our community.
