Webster Bank for a second straight year ranks among the top 50 among U.S. bank in the volume of debit and credit-card transactions cleared through their automated clearing networks.
Webster said Tuesday it ranks 45th on the National Automated Clearing House Association’s annual listing of automated clearing house banks. Last year, Webster was 49th based on its 2012 volume.
The automated clearing house is an electronic network that processes large volumes of U.S. credit and debit transactions in batches.
A total of $38.7 trillion was transferred over the ACH network in 2013, an increase of almost 5 percent from 2012, the association said.
No. 1 was Wells Fargo Bank, which also has Connecticut branches. Others include No. 2 J.P. Morgan Chase; No. 3 Bank of America; No. 4 Citigroup; No. 20 RBS Citizens; No. 31 TD Bank; and No. 35 Santander Bank.
