Web ranking: CT 2nd-best place to live

Connecticut is the second-best state in the nation to live in terms of wealth and public safety, according to a new ranking by 24/7 Wall St., a financial news website.

Key indicators that make Connecticut desireable, the ranking says, include median household incomes of $71,346, fifth highest in the country, and a solid public safety record, with 219 violent crimes reported per 100,000 residents in 2015. That constitutes one of the lowest violent crime rates in the nation, the ranking states.

Other key indicators include the 10-year population growth rate of 5.8 percent, 10th lowest in the nation; a 5.1 percent October unemployment rate, the 19th highest; a 10.5 percent poverty rate, the sixth lowest; and life expectancy of 80 years, second highest in the country.

Massachusetts ranks No. 1 and New Hampshire, Minnesota and New Jersey round out the top five.
