Wealthy concentrated in New England

New England is home to the highest concentration of wealthy households, according to a report from The Conference Board. Nearly 63 percent of households in the region maintain an average discretionary income of $27,337, compared to the national average of $24,335. Today about 73 million households in the U.S. have discretionary income, up from 57 million in 2002. Households that earn more than $200,000 account for 3 percent of households in the nation, the report indicated. About 60 percent of all households in the nation earn less than $50,000.
