Cheshire fast-food franchisor Wayback Burgers has signed a lease to open a new restaurant at
1142 Main St. in Watertown.
The location is part of a strip mall, and the new restaurant is slated to open in early 2022.
Jia Zhou Lin, the franchisee, has been a cook for more than two decades.
“I’m so excited to announce the lease signing and entry of our Wayback Burgers restaurant in Watertown,” Lin said. “The Watertown area is a great fit for the brand.”
The new Watertown restaurant will be the 19th in Connecticut for the chain, and it is expected to add 30 new jobs. Terms of the lease were not disclosed.
Patrick Conlin, president of Wayback Burgers, said he is pleased the brand is continuing to expand.
“We are committed to keeping our business booming in Connecticut,” Conlin said. “We look forward to Jia expanding our statewide footprint.”
The new restaurant will have the kitchen visible through glass windows, so customers can watch as food is prepared. It will also feature a retail space with branded apparel for sale.
The Wayback Burgers chain, originally founded in 1991 in Delaware, is known for its cooked-to-order burgers and milkshakes. It experienced growth in 2020, despite the pandemic having a negative impact on most restaurants.
Wayback Burgers currently operates in 31 states in the U.S., and has international locations in Brunei, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Pakistan, The Netherlands, Canada and Ireland, with ongoing global expansion plans.
