Waterford sporting equipment company Jaypro Sports has launched Germ Ninja, a new device that sanitizes sport balls using ultraviolet light.
The device was first used by the U.S. volleyball team in their Olympic training centers this summer, and is now being made available to the public.
The device was designed by Dr. Arthur Kreitenberg to help prevent the spread of disease-causing germs such as MRSA, the flu virus and whooping cough during athletic activity.
Before developing the concept, Kreitenberg conducted research in community gyms and found 20 percent of sport balls tested positive for MRSA. The Germ Ninja utilizes UVC technology with a 254 nanometer wavelength ultraviolet light sanitizer to kill germs within five minutes.
