Waterford’s Foley named CT Med Society prez

Waterford cardiologist Dr. John A. Foley has been named president of the Connecticut State Medical Society, the state’s largest physician group.

Foley, 50, practices in Norwich, where he is the director of the heart failure and wellness program at William H. Backus Hospital and an attending physician at the Yale School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Foley is an advocate for medical liability reform, which Connecticut physicians cite as the most significant barrier to retaining and recruiting physicians. The American Medical Association continues to rank Connecticut as a “crisis state” because of its extremely high medical liability premiums.

Foley is also president of the New London County Medical Association until his term ends in October.
