Waterbury’s CoCo Key up for auction

For a starting bid of $1.5 million, you could become the new owner of a Brass City hotel-indoor water park.

The CoCo Key Water Resort-Hotel & Convention Center in Waterbury, which is opened with great fanfare in 2008, is on the auction block.

The February auction is for property that includes a 282-room hotel, 40,000 square feet of meeting space, plus the 55,000-square-foot water park.

The resort is owned by a group of investors but is managed by the Sage Hospitality Group.

According to the Denver Business Journal, 10 hotel-water resorts currently managed by Denver-based Sage Hospitality are being auctioned off over the next month, including other locations in Boston, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey and Ohio.

Sage Hospitality purchased the 282-room hotel — the former Connecticut Grand Hotel and Conference Center — in 2007.

According to Auction.com, where the property is being auctioned online, the hotel has an occupancy rate of 33 percent.
