Waterbury Mayor Neil M. O’Leary, who has pushed the city to clean up its many contaminated industrial sites, has been named to a national advisory panel by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
O’Leary joins 34 other officials from 30 different states and entities on the EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee, which works on issues including health, environmental justice and climate change.
EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan said, “We need local partners at the table to address our most pressing environmental challenges.”
“I’m excited to be a voice for cities and towns as we work collaboratively with our leaders at EPA to address the wide range of environmental challenges and concerns we all share,” O’Leary said.
O’Leary has made cleaning up the Brass City’s many brownfields a priority in the hopes of putting the properties back on the tax rolls.
