The Energy Systems Sales & Training facility in Waterbury will install a 45-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system, as part of plan to eventually manufacture Taiwanese solar in Connecticut.
The facility is a partnership between the Industrial Management & Training Institute of Waterbury and Motech Industries of Taiwan, established in November. The center uses IMTI trainees to import and distribute the Motech solar panels, with an eye toward eventually manufacturing the panels at the site.
The 174 rooftop panels to be installed at the 233 Mill St. site is expected to decrease IMTI’s power bills by $10,000 annually. The electricity generated is equal to nine homes.
IMTI is the first institution in Connecticut to offer a formal apprenticeship program in the solar industry.
