Waterbury e-waste recycler acquired, 40 employees to be retained

Victor, New York-based electronics recycler EWASTE+ announced Thursday its acquisition of Waterbury-based Take 2 Recycling.

Terms were not disclosed.

EWASTE+, in a release, described its acquisition of Take 2 as the “next step” in its expansion.

EWASTE+, before the acquisition, had about 130 employees and three locations, including its headquarters in the Rochester area, another outside Albany and one more outside of New York City.

The company serviced the greater Albany and New York City markets with on-site collection, data sanitization, product refurbishment, hard drive destruction, resource recovery and chain-of-custody documentation.

EWASTE+, according to its release, has serviced over 11,000 clients and diverted more than 300 million pounds of electronic waste from landfills since its founding in 1995.
Take 2, based at 122 Avenue of Industry in Waterbury, was founded in 2013, providing e-waste recycling services for municipalities, schools, businesses and nonprofits throughout Connecticut.

Ron McIntyre, director of client services and sales for EWASTE+, said Take 2 employed roughly 40 employees, all of whom are expected to be retained. He expects the number of positions based at the Waterbury facility to grow as EWASTE+ looks to expand into western Massachusetts from its new position in central Connecticut.

“Definitely our focus is on growing while still being able to provide the same level of customer support at the local level,” McIntyre said.
