An East Granby manufacturer owned by Warren Buffett has completed delivery of $13 million in safety-related replacement cables for the Shin Kori nuclear power plant in South Korea.
RSCC Nuclear Cable was picked in November 2013 to provide the cables for the nuclear reactor, and the delivery mark’s the cable industry’s first installation of 60-year qualified nuclear cables anywhere in the world.
Cable safety was emphasized in the nuclear industry after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan, where the impact of a tsunami caused the release of substantial amounts of radioactive material.
RSCC has delivered more than 1 million feet of cable to meet the urgent demand for replacement cables at the Korean nuclear plant. More than 1,000 reels of cable have been shipped over the past six months, each inspected several times in the U.S. and before installation in South Korea.
RSCC’s parent company is Marmon Engineered Wire & Cable, which is owned by Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway in Omaha. Marmon’s revenues totals $7 billion last year.
