Walmart to close one of its two Norwalk stores this fall

Walmart will close one of its two Norwalk stores this fall, eliminating 255 associate positions, according to a notice filed with the state Department of Labor Tuesday.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer said it notified employees on Aug. 30 that the store at 680 Connecticut Ave. will close. The last day the store will be open to the public is Nov. 3, according to the filing.

Associates who do not take other jobs with the company will be terminated as of Dec. 1.

The job cuts are expected to be permanent, and none of the affected employees are members of a union, the filling says. However, employees will receive a “90-day paid job search period.”

The Norwalk store is part of a batch of Walmart stores that are closing in 2023. The retail giant has been closing a handful of stores across the country each year that are “underperforming or falling short of financial expectations,” according to Business Insider.

Walmart currently has 33 stores in Connecticut, including another store in Norwalk at 650 Main Ave.
