Wallingford-based Amphenol has announced its largest-ever acquisition, buying Connectivity and Cable Solutions (CCS) from CommScope for $10.5 billion.
Amphenol makes electrical, electronic and fiber optic connectors, antennas, sensors and coaxial and high-speed specialty cable.
It says the deal will expand its capabilities in fiber optic interconnect products for artificial intelligence and other data center applications, a rapidly growing market.
In addition to data center products, CCS also has a broadband communications division, which sells fiber optic products to customers in the communications networks market; and a building connectivity unit, which sells interconnect products integrated into existing and next-generation building technology in the industrial market.
“We are excited by the prospect of adding the CCS business and its more than 15,000 talented employees to the Amphenol family,” said Amphenol President and CEO R. Adam Norwitt.
This is the third recent acquisition Amphenol has made from North Carolina-based CommScope. Earlier this year, the Connecticut company bought CommScope's mobile networks business, Andrew, for about $2 billion and last year purchased its outdoor wireless network and distributed antenna systems businesses for $2.1 billion.
Amphenol is planning to finance the latest acquisition through cash on hand and debt. It has obtained financing commitments from J.P. Morgan Securities, BNP Paribas and Mizuho Bank.
