Stop & Shop in Wallingford last week unveiled two new electric vehicle charging stations, which it installed with the help of a state grant.
The chargers will be available around the clock and will be free to use, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
The North Colony Road supermarket received a $6,807 grant from DEEP’s EVConnecticut program, which is backed by funds related to the Northeast Utilities-NSTAR merger agreement in 2012. The combined company has since changed its name to Eversource.
DEEP said it is the first such grant it has awarded to Stop & Shop.
There were approximately 200 publicly accessible charging stations in Connecticut as of August, according to a Department of Energy data.
