Wallingford schools to stock Z-Medica dressings

Wallingford medical products manufacturer Z-Medica has donated its bleeding control bags to Wallingford’s 12 public schools, it announced.

The bags contain QuikClot hemostatic gauze, tourniquets and other materials used to treat blood loss in an emergency.

Wallingford’s public safety departments also use the products, which are also used by the military for battlefield and other injuries.

Wallingford Superintendent Salvatore F. Menzo said that the district has shop and culinary programs, and that the Z-Medica materials could come in handy if a student or staff member suffers a cut. The gauze can also be used for severe injuries, such as gunshots.

Wallingford Mayor William Dickinson said in a statement that the bags provide an emergency treatment option in the case of a school lockdown, while ambulance personnel wait for police to deem the site safe.
