Wallingford power customers get free efficiency check

Customers of the Wallingford Electric Division can receive a free Home Energy Savings assessment, a statewide program to make homes energy efficient.

During HES assessment, efficiency technicians identify and seal air leaks and drafts, install improved lighting and water-saving devices, and identify inefficient appliances, insulation and heating/cooling systems.

The co-pay for the HES assessment is typically $70 for residential customers, but Wallingford Electric Division is offering the service for free. Wallingford efficiency contractor Competitive Resources Inc. will perform the assessment.

“A HES visit should reduce the total energy use of most customers by at least 10 percent, and many customers will realize energy savings of up to 20 percent or more,” said Rick Hendershot, WED general manager, in a press release.
