Wallingford-based Nel Hydrogen US has received a $12 million contract to supply equipment to generate oxygen for life-support systems used on U.S. submarines.
The award is the latest in a longstanding relationship Nel has with Collins Aerospace to produce the technology known as PEM electrolyser stacks.
Nel received a $6 million order from Collins for the same application in March 2025. Deliveries for the latest award are expected to take place throughout 2027 and 2028.
Nel Hydrogen’s 100,000-square-foot Wallingford facility at 10 Technology Drive underwent a $30 million renovation and expansion in 2024 to increase its capacity for producing electrolysers, including a significant investment in robotics.
"Our Wallingford team has supplied this specialized application over many years. This order confirms the continued relevance of our PEM technology and manufacturing capabilities," Chief Commercial Officer Todd Cartwright said.
Nel’s parent company is based in Oslo, Norway.
