Wallingford energy efficiency contractor Competitive Resources Inc. will donate up to $50,000 to the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund as customers sign up for home energy assessments.
The company will donate $50 per assessment for every United Illuminated and Connecticut Light & Power customer who signs up for the energy savings program. The max CRI will contribute is $50,000.
Under the state’s Home Energy Assessment program, participants contribute a $75 co-pay, and technicians recommend upgrades for a home’s energy efficiency. The rest of assessment is paid through the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, which is funded through charges on the bills of CL&P and UI customers.
“The crisis that has emerged from the damage to Japan’s nuclear plants reinforces that energy efficiency should be considered the first fuel in our efforts to reduce energy consumption and global warming,” said Bob Kemper, CRI partner, in a press release.
