Walgreens offering H1N1 vaccine nationwide

Drug retailer Walgreen Co., which has a regional distribution center in Windsor and stores throughout Connecticut, today said it is offering the H1N1 vaccine across the United States in this month.

The chain, which operates the Walgreens drugstores and Take Care Clinics, said it would offer the H1N1 vaccine at about 1,500 locations in 27 states and the District of Columbia. It said it would work with government agencies in other states to receive and distribute the vaccine.

Until now, the company had been providing the vaccine in only a few markets to people given priority in accordance with guidelines set by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Walgreen said it had so far administered about 200,000 vaccinations against H1N1 at its stores and clinics.
