W. Hfd. woman accused of taking $170K from employer

A 28-year-old personal assistant has been arrested on charges that she embezzled nearly $170,000 from an employer to pay for shopping sprees and lavish getaways, The Associated Press reports.

The Advocate of Stamford reports Helen Kapoutsos of West Hartford was arraigned Thursday in Norwalk Superior Court on a first-degree larceny charge and released on $100,000 bond.

An affidavit says Kapoutsos met her employer at a Manhattan strip club last year. She denied the charges, saying she was a highly paid escort and only paid herself for things she purchased because her employer’s credit card was frequently rejected.

She also told police she regularly had sex with her employer and his fiance. The man denied ever paying Kapoutsos for sex.

The man reported the theft to New Cannan police in September.
