West Hartford-based American Business Media (AmBiz), a magazine publisher and producer of banking, credit union and mortgage conferences, says it’s acquired a Long Island-based publication geared toward the mortgage lending field.
AmBiz, headquartered on North Main Street, on Thursday announced it bought the National Mortgage Professional Magazine, Mortgage News Network and their affiliated titles for an undisclosed amount.
The companies said the combination will allow them to reach over 160,000 mortgage originator professionals a week through its network of email newsletters, webinars, videos, print and digital magazines, speciality products and about three dozen nationwide events a year.
AmBiz, which currently publishes Originator Connect, Banking New England, Banking New York, Today’s CPA and Connecticut Banking, among other publications, said the combined company will be based in West Hartford under its existing brand.
National Mortgage Professional Magazine co-founders Andrew Berman and his father, Joel, will take on executive roles at AmBiz, as operations continue in Long Island, N.Y.
“We have had the good fortune to have worked with the folks at Mortgage News Network and National Mortgage Professional Magazine for several years,” said AmBiz CEO Vincent Valvo, who was formerly editor of Hartford Business Journal. “We believe Joel and Andrew Berman are industry visionaries.”
AmBiz calls itself the country’s largest producer of conferences for the mortgage, banking and credit union industries, producing 32 conferences, tradeshows and networking events last year.
Founded in the early 1990s, the company said it also offers several educational opportunities for mortgage and banking professionals. In 2019, AmBiz said it provided Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) licensing classes to over 2,500 originators.
