W. Harford’s Hunter Capital merges with Calif. Investment firm

West Hartford investment firm Hunter Capital Advisors said Monday it will merge its $2 billion in assets with a larger California-based firm.

Hunter Capital’s Connecticut office is joining SageView Advisory Group of Irvine, Calif., which will now have 23 offices with more than 135 associates and $84 billion in assets, serving over 1,200 clients across the nation.

Hunter Capital will now operate under SageView’s name in its current offices and will oversee the Northeast market with the California firm’s current teams based in Boston and Washington D.C.

The West Hartford firm is led by veteran CFA Tim Burns, who will now serve as managing director for SageView.

Burns said he is the West Hartford firm’s sole full-time employee, adding that the merger will “present business growth and expansion opportunities.”

He managed Hunter Capital for the last 13 years and previously managed an investment advisory business for an actuarial consulting firm.

He was also affiliated with Bloomfield insurer Cigna as senior vice president of Global Portfolio Strategies Inc., overseeing its national assets and investment consulting practice.

SageView CEO Randy Long said he was “thrilled” about joining forces with Burns, who increases their northeast presence and offers investment expertise that fits with the company’s growth initiatives.
