Voya workers eligible for relief

Former employees of Voya Retirement and Insurance Annuity Co., located in Windsor, that handled retirement and annuity products and services, have been certified as eligible to apply for federal Trade Adjustment Assistance.

No corresponding WARN act notice was filed by Voya, indicating a large layoff. A Department of Labor spokesperson said when a company is certified by the U.S. Dept. of Labor for federal Trade Act funds that action is often not tied to a WARN notice.

Employees eligible to apply for federal benefits are those who are or will be totally or partially separated from employment due to lack of work on or after Oct. 16, 2014 and on or before March 15, 2018.

According to the Conn. Department of Labor, funds are made available if the workforce has been displaced due to foreign competition, such as the work going to Mexico.
