Voya promotes Smith to CFO

Voya Financial Inc., which has major operations in Windsor, has named Michael S. Smith chief financial officer, effective Nov. 7, as his predecessor resigns.

Smith, who will be based in West Chester, Pa., will continue to report to Rodney O. Martin, Jr., Voya’s chairman and chief executive officer, and serve on Voya’s executive committee. He’ll oversee the finance offices around the country, including one based in Windsor.

Smith, who joined Voya in 2009, has previously served as CEO of Insurance Solutions at Voya and has had management oversight for the company’s closed block variable annuity (CBVA) segment. Smith has also served as Voya’s chief risk officer and, prior to that, held the roles of CEO, CFO and CRO for Voya’s annuities business.

Smith succeeds Ewout L. Steenbergen, who has served as CFO of Voya since 2010 and will leave the firm Nov. 7 to join S&P Global as executive vice president and CFO, that company announced. Steenbergen starts at S&P Global on Nov. 14.
