Voting starts in CL&P live green contest

Connecticut Light & Power on Wednesday opened voting for its Live Green-Win Green contest, encouraging students at local high schools to come up with energy efficient solutions for their facilities.

The voting lasts until 5 p.m. March 31. The entry receiving the most votes will be dubbed the People’s Choice and receive an automatic placement in the contest finals, where the winner will be picked by Connecticut educators and environmental leaders.

“This year, there are entries from 21 schools so the voters have plenty to choose from,” said Jeff Butler, CL&P president and chief operating officer, in a statement. “We not only want to reward students for what they already do to manage energy and protect the environment, but we want students, together with their schools, to make a real commitment to making effective and lasting changes for the future.”

The winning high school receives $20,000 from CL&P to help fund their proposed project. Three other schools will be chosen as runners-up, and each will receive $5,000.
