Sweden’s Volvo Aero, with manufacturing in Newington, signed a deal with East Hartford’s Pratt & Whitney Co. to produce components for Pratt’s geared turbofan passenger-jet engine.
Terms were not disclosed.
It could not be determined whether the parts will be made at Volvo Aero’s Newington production plant. Volvo Aero and Pratt officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The parts — a turbine exhaust case and an intermediate case — are for Pratt’s PW1100G PurePower engine. Pratt’s patented technology allows the engine to run quieter and consume less fuel than traditional passenger-jet engines.
The PW1100G is designed to power the Airbus 320neo airliner.
The deal is the latest for both companies to be announced at the week-long Paris Air Show.
