Connecticut, as one of the first market to receive the electric Chevrolet Volt, also will be the first to receive Volts solely for demonstration purposes.
In the fourth quarter 2010, Connecticut became the fourth market in the world to sell the Chevrolet Volt, a plug-in hybrid vehicle that drives 38 miles on a battery before switching to a gas engine. Starting on Monday, Connecticut became one of nine markets to receive 550 demonstration Volts.
Unlike the Volts that came in 2010, the demonstration vehicles are solely for the public to come and drive the electric car. Chevrolet hopes by making the $40,000 car available for everyone to drive, the increased customer traffic will result in sales of its lower-priced gasoline-only vehicles.
“We know the best way to experience the Volt is to get behind the wheel and drive it. Now dealers will have the ability to allow consumers to form their own opinions of the Volt through test drives and demonstrations,” said Cristi Landy, Chevrolet marketing director, in a statement.
