Hartford asset manager Virtus Investment Partners Inc. is teaming with West Coast financial advisor Cliffwater LLC to launch three liquid alternative mutual funds for investors eager to diversify their long-term investments and returns.
Their partnership, Cliffwater Investments LLC, of Marina Del Rey, Calif., will subadvise on the trio of mutual funds targeted at retail investors, the firms said.
Virtus CEO George R. Aylward said the new funds are alternatives to traditional fund portfolios comprised of equity and fixed-income securities that are reliant on an ongoing bull market and low interest rates.
“To meet their long-term financial goals, investors need to consider alternative strategies that typically have been available only to institutional investors and high-net-worth clients,” Aylward said.
The funds are: Virtus Alternative Total Solution Fund, which combines a diversified collection of alternative (income, real assets and long/short) strategies designed to generate a positive total return in various market cycles; Virtus Alternative Income Solution Fund, focused on capturing current yield from a diversified combination of income producing securities; and the Virtus Alternative Real Assets Solution Fund, to help investors protect their purchasing power by producing a total return that exceeds the rate of inflation over the course of a full market cycle.
Cliffwater has approximately $70 billion of assets under advisement, including approximately $52 billion in alternative strategies. Clients include large institutional investors, pension funds and endowments.
