Virtus appoints two new board members

Hartford-based asset manager Virtus Investment Partners said it has appointed to its board two executives who work in the advisory and investment industries.

Melody L. Jones is chief administrative officer of CEB, a Virginia company that advises executives on financial, management and other matters.

Stephen T. Zarrilli is president and CEO of Pennsylvania’s Safeguard Scientifics, which invests in and provides operation support to healthcare and technology companies.

Like Virtus, both CEB and Safeguard are publicly traded.

Jones has been with CEB since 2005, and previously worked for T. Rowe Price and Aon Corp. Zarrilli has been with Safeguard since 2006 after working for Penn Valley Group and Fiberlink Communications Corp.

As non-employee directors, each will receive $150,000 per year, split between cash and common stock. Zarrilli will receive an additional $15,000 for serving on the board’s audit committee, while Jones will get $10,000 for serving on the compensation committee.
