Viridian to sponsor Long Island Sound cleanup

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article that went out in the April 13 Energy newsletter incorrectly stated the cleanup started on Tuesday. The actual start date is Thursday.

Norwalk retail electricity supplier Viridian Energy will host its beach cleanup on Long Island Sound for the second year in a row.

The cleanup – organized with Save the Sound – will start at 9:30 a.m. Thursday April 21 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.

The cleanup is part of the company’s Earth Month campaign to clean up beaches and neighborhoods, plant trees, and sponsor sustainability events.

In addition to offering electricity rates cheaper than the standard utility rates – as most energy suppliers do – Viridian has an option for customers to pay a premium to buy 100 percent renewable electricity.
