Vernon ShopRite to debut in March

ShopRite says it will open a new full-service supermarket at the former Price Chopper space in Vernon next month.

ShopRite announced Wednesday the Vernon grocery store will debut Sunday, March 8, after a major renovation of the roughly 100,000-square-foot building owned and operated by DLC Management Corp.

The grocery store site, located within the Tri-City Plaza, became available last year after Price Chopper shuttered its store there at 35 Talcottville Road.

ShopRite said the Vernon store, employing 250 full- and part-time workers, will offer a full-service pharmacy providing flu shots, immunizations, supplies and prescriptions, among other services. ShopRite from Home, the chain’s e-commerce shopping platform, will also be available to customers looking to order groceries online for pick up or home deliveries.

The ShopRite at Tri-City Plaza is next to a T.J. Maxx, Hartford Freight Tools and a Hartford HealthCare HealthCenter.

Waverly Markets LLC owns and operates the Vernon ShopRite and others in Manchester and East Hartford. The ShopRite chain is a cooperative of supermarkets under its New Jersey-based corporate and distribution arm, Wakefern Food Corp. Waverly joined Wakefern Food in 1999.

ShopRite debuted a new location last May at the Cromwell Square Shopping Plaza, and closed another location in West Hartford months later.

ShopRite has 26 stores in Connecticut, according to its website. There are nearly 280 ShopRite supermarkets across the northeast.
