About 11,000 athletes slogged through the Eversource Hartford Marathon on Saturday, fending off cold and rainy conditions during the 25th annual race.
David Sinclair, 26, of Vermont, won the 26.2-mile marathon running in 2:18:23. Trailing were Maine resident Ryan Smith (2:22:36) and Springfield’s Dennis Roche (2:24:11). The top Connecticut finisher, in fifth, was Kevin Hoyt (2:30:44) of Newtown.
The women’s marathon was won by Rachel Schilkowsky, 26, of Providence, R.I, who ran in 2:41:03.
Donn Cabral won the 13.1-mile half marathon running in 1:05:46. The Hartford native is a two-time olympian and graduate of Glastonbury High School. He currently attends the University of Connecticut School of Law.
The Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF), a Glastonbury-based nonprofit, had said it expected the race to generate at least $14 million in economic value for the region. The foundation has not yet reported on whether it reached its $500,000 fundraising goal.
HMF organizes over 30 annual athletics races.
