The federal government renewed its contract with a California vendor to continue processing Medicare and Medicaid claims and other services to suppliers of wheelchairs, oxygen tents and other durable medical equipment in Connecticut and the Northeast, and Washington D.C.
The NHIC Corp. unit of HP Enterprise Services, based in Palo Alto, Calif., received a five-year contract renewal, through March 2016, valued at $72.3 million from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
CMS is an arm of the federal Department of Health and Human Services.
Services for this contract include claims processing, medical review, medical policy, appeals processing and customer service.
NHIC won a five-year contract in 2006 to service suppliers in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Â Â
Its territory covers more than 1.3 million beneficiaries and more than 53,000 healthcare providers.
