Vegas debut for UTC’s newest surveillance camera

United Technologies Corp.’s aerospace systems division unveiled a super-lightweight, compact infrared surveillance video camera that the Hartford manufacturer claims can render clear images captured through smoke, fog and haze.

UTC Aerospace Systems, based in Charlotte, N.C., is showing its next-generation shortwave infrared (SWIR) digital video camera at the AUVSI Unmanned Systems North America Exhibition running through Thursday in Las Vegas.

The model GA1280JS camera features 30 hertz full-frame rate and adds snapshot mode capability.

It weighs less than four ounces without lens and is less than 4 1/2 cubic inches or 74 cubic centimeters in size, compact enough to integrate into aerial, mobile and hand-held imaging systems, UTC said.

Price wasn’t disclosed.
