A developer plans to redevelop a vacant, two-building historic Westport property into a 17-unit residential development, according to plans filed with the town.
Norwalk-based Botero Construction Management LLC and principals Carlos Botero and Lina Achoa propose converting a 7,049-square-foot, two-story building at 50 Post Road W., into an apartment building with 13 units.
The developer also plans to convert a 1,568-square-foot, 1.75-story building that was built in 1960 into four townhomes that would each have four bedrooms, according to the plans.
An email to the developer was not immediately returned.
Both buildings, which sit on a 1-acre parcel, were last used as office space but have been vacant for many years, the application said.
“The property has been vacant for over ten years and during this time, the buildings and grounds have fallen into disrepair and are now in a dilapidated condition,” the application said. “This project presents a unique opportunity to restore and revitalize a site that is historically and visually significant to Westport. The community has long expressed a desire to see this building preserved and brought back into productive use.”
The larger 7,049-square-foot building was built in 1900 and would include three units with two bedrooms and two units with one bedroom on the first floor; and three units with one bedroom and two units with two bedrooms on the second floor. Three units with one bedroom would be constructed on a third floor of the building, known as the Captain Frederick Sherwood House.
Botero Construction Management, which would designate 20% of the units as affordable housing, bought the property in November 2024 for $2 million.
